Question:
How do you allow God to change you?Answer:
Great question! There are many times we hear someone say "allow God to change you," but what does it really mean? Since that phrase isn't found in the Bible anywhere, we need to look at it in context. Here's what I think it means.
"Allowing God to change you" is not just sitting back and letting God do the work in His timing. It's not a copout for continuing to do what you want while waiting for God to "get your attention" or "change you".
I think it's better to look at that concept as an attitude of surrender. It's not trying to "fix yourself" or just a matter of "trying a little bit harder." It's honestly coming before the living God and saying, "I need you. I can't fix myself. I need you to help me be the person you want me to be."
Christianity is not so much about "doing the right things." It's more about seeking to be the right person and giving control of your life to God... surrendering to Him. It's saying, "God, I want to be what you want me to be. I'll do what I know you want me to do... and you finish the job by changing my heart and mind." It's a matter of obedience to what you know to be true and what you know you need to do. It is about reading His Word to see what His desire is for your life. Yet, it is also surrendering to the one who will change you from the inside out.
