Real Life Answers

Can I be a Christian and still have fun?

Question:

Whenever I think of being a better Christian and devoting my life to serving God, it makes me think that I won't be able to have anymore fun in my life and it'll be boring afterward. Why is this? What can I do? Please help me out. Thank You.

Answer:

This is a common concern. I know that I had these thoughts myself when I was a teenager.

I hope that I can encourage you by telling you that God isn't in the business of ruining lives, but rather building them! In the gospel of John (10:10) we read that Jesus said, "I have come so that you may have life, and life to the full." Note that He said, "full life" not "empty life." When a person commits their life to following God, He uses those traits, skills, interests, and desires that He's given you and enhances them. If you have a sense of humor, don't worry. You won't lose it. If you love action and adventure, you won't find yourself suddenlty wanting to sit around and meditate all day. It is true, God refines our lives. But, if we love Him and are committed to His work in our lives, we'll find that our desires are refined to match His desires. He cleans out the worthless junk and replaces it with great things.

If you truly want to become the complete person that God intended you to be, commitment to following Him is the pathway.

Here's my story: I said that I struggled with this same issue. Yet, I can honestly say looking back, that I've never for one minute regretted devoting my life to Him. I can guarantee that you won't either!

Blessings,
