I suspect my son has began to masturbate.

Question:

I suspect my son has began to masturbate. I don't feel that is godly especially since the stuff I see on him since it began. I have spoken to my husband and he is concerned about damaging him if not approached in the right way. I know he is probably right, but I feel this problem needs to addressed. If I am wrong please correct me, if not please help. By the way he's only 12 years old. Is that normal? Thank you.

Answer:

Thanks for contacting us here at HomeWord. This is what I will encourage you to do: go out and buy the book, "The Struggle" by Steve Gerali. It is being published by Think Books (a division of NavPress). It is available online at amazon.com. Steve does a great job in the book of talking about the masturbation issue. By the way, this is a "normal" thing...in fact, it is an issue that would sooner or later come up in your relationship with your son. I'm glad that you even know about it and have the relationship with him that you can discuss it. Pick up the book...read it with your husband and then go for it! Also, be sure to type in "masturbation" under the keyword search on the Real Life Answers section of our website. You will find some great questions and answers on the topic.

Blessings to you.
