Question:
I need information concerning Pokemon & Yu-Gi-Oh. I have an 11 year old son who is quite fascinated with these and I need biblical answers.Answer:
We are so glad you both contacted us. Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh are "fantasy" games. Fantasy and mythical stories have been around for centuries. They stir the imagination and, frankly, are simply alot of fun. Unfortunately, they can have their "dark" side. This is what I would encourage you to do...playing the game and enjoying it is only one side of the equation. I would be careful about exploring any characters that have a level of "evil" that makes you uncomfortable. In other words, I would watch closely what type of characters you play. Be a believer first...a game player second! Use your faith in Jesus to "screen" out any influence that might "suck you in" in ways that would not be good for you. Like I said, fantasy is fine as long as fantasy doesn't become reality. When all you are thinking about is Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon, you have a problem. Mom, look over the websites for Yu-Gi-Oh and read about the characters and the game. Familiarize yourself with it so that you can battle the "mystery" factor. In other words, know what your child is playing. Remember, fantasy has been around for a long time...Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and CS Lewis' books are all wonderful fantasies that communicate truth in creative ways. As long as good triumphs over evil and Johnny doesn't get "sucked" into a fantasy life, I think you're ok. Mom, check out the following website and read up about the game:
