Real Life Answers

Is it ever too late to accept Jesus Christ into your life?

Question:

Is it ever too late to accept Jesus Christ into your life?

Answer:

Good question! In theory - the answer is no. Plenty of people have accepted Jesus into their lives - at the very end of their life. I am sure there are people whose last earthly act was to repent of their sins and ask Jesus for His forgiveness! A great example from the Bible is from the Gospel of Luke (Chapter 23) where we read about the thief who was being crucified on a cross next to Jesus. He asked Jesus as he was dying, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." Jesus responded, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

In reality though, many people have chosen to reject Jesus at some point in their life and never looked back to reconsider before their deaths. For these people, in a sense, it became too late when they made that intentional decision to reject Him.

Others put off a decision to invite Jesus into their lives - thinking that they will do it sometime later in life - only to have their lives end before they ever got around to making a decision. Only God really knows a person's heart, but I do believe that for some - "putting off" deciding - made it too late to accept Jesus.

I think that it is possible to miss opportunities that God provides to people to respond to Him, which is why I think we find in the book of Hebrews 3:12-15: "See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first. As has just been said: 'Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.'"

Blessings to you.
